At Nordic Oil, we try to do our bit to help the environment. Last fall, we worked with ReSea Project to help collect plastic from the world’s oceans, and were successful in removing over 3000kg of waste. But this wasn’t a one-time effort for us. At Nordic Oil, we pride ourselves on working towards being a sustainable organisation and want to continue our work supporting environmental initiatives.
For Earth Day 2021, we’re working alongside Danish organization, Growing Trees, to plant 1 tree for every order placed for the week of April 19th-25th.
International Earth Day is celebrated every year in over 150 countries around the world. It was celebrated for the first time in 1970 when Denis Hayes, back then a 25-year-old student at Harvard Kennedy School, today a renowned lawyer for environmental law and solar power, initiated and coordinated the first Earth Day. Since then the network around this day has expanded in all corners of the world.
And, as a supporter of environmental initiatives, the Nordic family wants to give back to nature as well – because without a little helping hand from our planet, we wouldn’t be able to help you.
Why are we doing this?
Trees are essential for maintaining the quality of the air we breathe. But they’re under threat. Globally, 900 million trees are destroyed every year. This destroys ecosystems, accelerates global warming and damages the air. The time to act is now.
And it’s not only the planet that needs help to breathe. These days, we’re all suffering from more stress and anxiety than ever before. With the pressures of working remotely, homeschooling the kids, keeping ourselves and our loved ones healthy, and finding time to maintain social relationships, we all need to take time to breathe out and relax.
That’s why we’re making April 19th-25th Earth Week at Nordic. In honour of Earth Day on April 22nd, we’re launching Breathe Out, a campaign aimed at helping both ourselves and the planet to breathe out.
For this year’s Earth Day, we’ve partnered with Growing Trees Denmark, an organisation based out of Denmark. Founded by Lars Heiselberg Vang Jensen and Kim Nielsen back in 2012, Growing Trees’ objective was to plant 1 million trees in order to protect drinking water and reduce CO2.
Since then they have worked hard to make their vision come true by establishing new forests in Denmark in cooperation with Danish municipalities, churches and The Danish Nature Agency. In the summer of 2019 they established their first pilot project in Ghana to forefront our ambitious Savannah Forest and Landscape Restoration Program.
The wrap up
Now, more than ever, the planet needs a helping hand. For this Earth Day, we’re proud to be working with Growing Trees, to do our bit to help the planet to breathe out. And it’s not just the planet; all week, we’ll be sharing wellbeing and stress-relief tips to help you too to take some time for yourself and breathe out.
